The white vapour released from our sugar mill chimneys is steam, not smoke. We burn bagasse in large boilers to generate steam and power for factory processes, as well as electricity for the grid.

Using bagasse enables our mills to be almost entirely self-sufficient for their energy requirements.

One of the many advantages of renewable energy production from bagasse is that we are not reliant on external elements, such as wind and sun. We are able to produce power all year round, day and night, making electricity generation from biomass a more reliable source of renewable power.

Some of the bagasse that our mills produce is stockpiled for later use. It is used for cogeneration outside of the crushing season and to restart factory operations each year.
