The team comprises our most senior representatives from across Wilmar Sugar Australia, Sugar Australia and New Zealand Sugar and meets regularly to discuss critical and strategic business issues. Our senior leaders frequently visit our operational sites to meet with local leadership teams, assess safety and environmental compliance, and engage with employees.

Meet the Senior Leadership Team

Shayne Rutherford
Shayne Rutherford
Head of Sugar and Renewables

Shayne has extensive experience in agribusiness, including almost 20 years in the sugar industry. His expertise includes major growth initiatives, mergers and acquisitions, and strategy planning. Prior to joining Wilmar, Shayne held senior roles across a broad range of industries, including the grain industry, mining, oil and gas, and manufacturing. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) and an MBA. Shayne is a Director of the Australian Sugar Milling Council.
Bernard Duignan
Bernard Duignan
Chief Executive Officer, Sugar Australia and New Zealand Sugar

Bernard has been with New Zealand Sugar for more than 30 years. He worked in a number of roles across the business prior to being appointed CEO of Sugar Australia and New Zealand Sugar in 2019. He is also the Head of New Zealand for Goodman Fielder, which is owned by Wilmar. Bernard has a strong background in agribusiness, having worked in the agricultural and horticultural sectors prior to joining New Zealand Sugar.
Paul Gregory
Paul Gregory
Chief Operating Officer, Sugar Australia

Paul was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Sugar Australia in 2019. He started with the business in 2005 as General Manager Finance and Supply Chain and went on to work in a number of finance roles. Paul has a strong financial background and has held senior finance roles with companies such as BHP Billiton, George Weston Foods, General Mills and Novell Asia Pacific. Prior to his appointment as Sugar Australia’s COO, he was the company’s Chief Financial Officer.
