From its plants in Asia, Wilmar manufactures stearic acid derived from palm oil. It is produced by splitting the fats at high pressure and temperature. There are many grades, which relate to the percentage of 18-carbon chains. Stearic acid can act as a surfactant in home and personal care products as it lowers the surface tension of oils, which then allows water to combine with the oil molecules and wash them away. This is why it is used widely in skin cleansing and hair care products.
Stearic acid is also used extensively in the rubber industry as a processing aid for rubber compounding.

Oleic acid is used in mould release agents, anti-foam agents and some mining flotation chemicals. In pharmaceuticals it can be used as an excipient and as an emulsifying or solubilising agent in aerosol products.

Caprylic acid is used as an ingredient in formulations for antimicrobial pesticide for sanitiser. It is also known to be used as a dietary supplement in the ester form, and there are industrial applications for this caprylic acid in mining flotation formulations.

In the same product range of distilled fatty acids, it manufactures Wilfarin DC0818H (DHCFA), Wilfarin DC1218 (TCFA) and Wilfarin DC1218H (DTHCFA). Whether these fatty acids are non-hydrogenated, hardened or topped creates functionality of stability, colour, viscosity and drying capabilities. They have varied functions including as a coating, surface treatment/protection of raw materials, water repellent and emulsifier.
