We were privileged to attend Kalamia State School's annual Presentation Day on Wednesday, 1 December 2021.

Kalamia State School is located near the entry to our Kalamia Mill, outside Ayr. It’s a small school with a big heart and a great team, led by Principal Renee Cross – AKA Mrs Awesome.

The mill and school share a special relationship, with mill employees helping to maintain the school grounds, regularly visiting with the TNorth Queensland Toyota Cowboys for Adopt-a-School activities, and even rescuing the occasional stray snake.

Kalamia Mill Production Superintendent Andrew Wallwork had the pleasure of attending the school's annual Presentation Day and presenting the Wilmar Sugar-sponsored Academic Excellence Award to Year 1 student Isabella Colls.

Over the years, many children of Kalamia Mill employees have attended Kalamia State School.

During the event a presentation was made to Leanne Cislowski, affectionately known to the school community as Mrs C. Mrs C has had a close connection to the school for more than 20 years and has worked there for the past 12. She is married to one of our Asset Management strategy managers, Wayne Cislowski, who was based at Kalamia Mill for many years and lived on the Kalamia Mill housing estate. The Cislowskis’ three sons, Cameron, Jordan and Dean all attended Kalamia State School. All three currently work for us at our Burdekin mills.
