Our annual Global Traders Roadshow has wrapped up for another year, with presentations across all four of Wilmar's milling regions and the Townsville office.

The events were held late last month, giving growers and Wilmar staff first-hand insights into the forces shaping the sugar market.

As always, it was a whirlwind trip for London-based Senior Sugar Trader Peter Bingham. He touched down on a Monday, delivered presentations in Ingham, Townsville, the Burdekin, Proserpine and Sarina, and flew out on a Friday.

He was accompanied on the roadshow by Brisbane-based Risk Manager Bevan Patterson and Grower Marketing Manager Simon Hood.

Peter provided an in-depth look at the global market, pointing to Brazil’s record sugar mix, India’s higher production outlook and the potential for Indian exports as key factors influencing supply, pricing, and trade flows in the months ahead.

He said market analysts were anticipating global surpluses and expected sugar prices to remain soft for at least the next year.

Bevan explained how global politics and currency markets affect growers' returns. He highlighted the role of the Australian dollar, which continues to be influenced by wider geopolitical factors, including trade policy and the impact of recent Trump tariffs.

Simon said the presentations were well received by growers, even if the market outlook wasn't overly positive.

"We see a lot of familiar faces at these events, year on year, which shows that growers really value the opportunity to get market intel directly from the experts.

“Giving growers access to our global sugar traders is also an important part of our value proposition as GEI sugar marketers."

Simon said his team members did a great job of organising and hosting the events within each of their regions.

The Grower Marketing team is in the final weeks of its annual nominations campaign. Growers have until 31 October to nominate Wilmar or QSL as their GEI Sugar marketer for the 2026 season.
